ACTORS’ NO-BRAINER #3: MAKE TV YOUR FRIEND
ALL serious actors MUST watch each of the new TV shows at least once.
Why? Are you kidding me? So you understand the style if and when you’re fortunate enough to audition for one of them.
I’m going to amend that first line to include old TV shows, too. I’m shocked at how many of my own clients tell me they’ve never watched such-and-such a show, which has been on the air for years. How can they possibly get the difference in acting style between, let’s say, “Law & Order: SVU” and “CSI Miami”? Or “Big Bang Theory” vs “Parks & Recreation”?
No one expects you to love everything that passes as entertainment, but you ARE expected to deliver a performance for whatever show you audition for that actually suits its own particular style.
And if you can’t afford the premium cable shows, get a pal to tape them for you. Or rent them. There is no feasible excuse not to be in the know. None.
